How can I use a domain name bought at Namecheap to build a website with Lunarpages web hosting? You might be asking this question if you are new at registering domain names and signing up for a web host account.

The simple answer to this question is ‘yes’. And to give you a little explanation and guidance as to how to do this, simple instructions are listed below.

How to Build a Website through Lunarpages while Using Namecheap Domains

Linking your Namecheap domain name to your Lunarpages web hosting is the first thing that you need to do to create a website. Depending on your login option, you will have different ways to add your domain name to your web host server. Because Lunarpages has different control panels, namely cPanel, Plesk and LPCP, you will have three options to add your domain name to your web hosting account.

This tutorial will focus on the LPCP control panel as this is the least common of the three. Because there are already tutorials all over the Internet for cPanel and Plesk control panels, the focus will be LPCP control panel.

  • Adding Your Namecheap Domain Name on Lunarpages through LPCP Control Panel

Log in to your LPCP control panel then look for the ‘Addon domains’ icon under the ‘Domain’ category. You will see the ‘Addon Domain Manager’; click the ‘Add New’ link on the top right corner on the page to add a new domain name on your account.

Fill in the form with the necessary information such as your domain name, username/directory and password. Just like in cPanel, you will have to provide your password twice. Click the ‘Go’ button and you are done. As you may notice, there is no separate field for the directory. This is because the name that you will put at the ‘username/directory’ will automatically be your ftp username and the directory name of your root folder under the public_html directory.

  • Changing Your DNS Settings

After you have added your domain name to your Namecheap domain name to your Lunarpages LPCP control panel, you can now point your domain name to your web host server. To do this, you must copy your nameservers from your welcome email, which you have received from Lunarpages upon your web host account signup. Paste the nameservers on a notepad as you will need this later.

Log in to your Namecheap account and go to ‘Manage Domains’. Choose the domain name that you need to modify then click the ‘Transfer DNS to Webhost’. After that, click the radio button that states ‘Specify Custom DNS Servers’. At the fields provided below the radio button, paste the nameservers that you have copied on your notepad. Provide one nameserver on each field.

You can provide more than two nameservers but you won’t likely use them so just stick with two. Click ‘Save Changes’ and you’re done.

Make sure that your Namecheap and your Lunarpages account info are safe and secured to ensure the safety and credibility of your website. Thus, keep everything in a safe place.
